California Oil and Watercolor Painter Inspired by the Sierra Nevada

About the Artist

Annie Barrett Cashner paints what she loves - the Sierra!  A local Bishop resident since 1999, she also views Yosemite as a home where she’s resided since 1984.  She “migrates much like a bird or deer, " and follows the seasons across the eastern and western Sierra for colors, shadows, and opportunity. Primarily a plein air painter, Annie paints with oil paint on large canvases using brushes and pallet knives to create colorful and textured paintings. As an outdoor science teacher, she has a trained eye keen on observing, studying, and painting the ecological connections between the land and living things. Her dynamic composition and expressive light and dark contrast span broad landscapes and smaller Sierra creatures. She finds inspiration from the beauty of the Sierra as well as from within. She studied art at UC Boulder, Cero Coso College, and numerous art workshops.  Her joyful work has been shown in the Yosemite Renaissance Show and the Bishop C5 Studio, The Ansel Adams Gallery, Whoa Nellie Deli, Bishop Art Supply, and the Schulman Grove Visitor Center.
